Nebraska Synod Assembly 2008 coming up -- May 30, 31 & June 1

Assembly 2008 focuses on

Living a Generous Life

On Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1, hundreds of Nebraska Lutherans will gather as the voting members and visitors of Nebraska Synod ELCA's annual Assembly! We will gather in a new location -- the Heartland Event Center in Grand Island.

We gather for the great work that God has placed before us - to be the people of God in Christ Jesus, those who proclaim Christ in our congregations and communities.
Grace, Gratitude, Giving will be the focus of this annual gathering of Nebraska Synod Lutherans in 2008.

We will celebrate our many ministries together and lift up how we respond to God through our stewardship of time, talent and treasure.
Registration for the 2008 Nebraska Synod Assembly to be held May 30, 31 and June 1 in Grand Island is now open. Registration packets have been mailed to voting members and congregations of the Synod. The early-bird registration prices remain in effect until May 2 so register soon. Register online!

No registration is required to attend the Sunday Assembly session and worship, however, visitors attending Assembly sessions on Friday or Saturday are required to register. Voting members and visitors can register by returning completed registration forms with their payment to the Nebraska Synod offices. Download registration forms

Congregations are encouraged to send two or three members from their stewardship committee for this hands-on, practical workshop. Separate registration is required for the Saturday workshop. Assembly voting members will not be able to attend this event. Steward Leader Workshop registration may be completed by calling Karen Pickering at the Synod office, 402-896-5311. Cost is $10 which covers the noon meal and all the workshop materials.

Dr. Mark Allan Powell, author of "Giving to God" and Trinity Seminary professor, will keynote our Assembly. Always popular as a men's, youth and family ministry leader, Pastor Dick Hardel will make us laugh and cry when he talks about God's encouraging message. Gifted song writer and performer Jay Beech will lead worship and music throughout Assembly.
On Friday evening, we will celebrate the 15th anniversary of our Companion Synod relationship with the Northern Diocese of Tanzania! Our congregations are gathering a special offering to prepare future pastoral leaders and strengthen ministry in Africa.
Assembly voting members and visitors will choose among seven workshops on Friday and Saturday afternoons!
Business before our Assembly includes Elections of Nebraska Synod leaders to Nebraska Synod Council, our essential boards and committees, and to participate as Voting Members at the 2009 ELCA Churchwide Assembly in Minneapolis. Other business will include our 2009 budget, resolutions that come before the Assembly from Nebraska Synod leaders, the Report of Bishop David L. deFreese, a presentation from an ELCA representative, and reports from our ministry leaders.
At our Saturday evening Recognition Banquet, Patrick Henry Hughes will share the inspiring story of his life.
The 2008 Assembly will include the election of Nebraska Synod Council members and voting members to the 2009 ELCA Churchwide Assembly. Nominations and resolutions were due Monday, March 3, 2008. Resolutions submitted after the due date require an Assembly vote to be considered, and require a three-fourths majority to pass.
